新加坡前總理李光耀多次來台，不僅與歷任台灣總統建立交情，也結交不少台灣各界友人。對於這位台灣友人辭世，包括馬英九總統、國民黨主席朱立倫、民進黨主席蔡英文等藍綠同表哀悼，人人也都有一段與李光耀的互動小故事。

李光耀曾多次來華度假，蔣經國曾親自接機，兩人之間經常有書信往返。當年擔任蔣經國祕書的馬英九負責幫忙撰擬信件，曾被交代「回信（給李光耀），要筆鋒常帶感情」，以顯示蔣經國與李光耀兩人深厚的友誼。

從1974年開始擔任故蔣經國英文祕書，與李光耀認識超過40年的宋楚瑜也有不少壓箱底的小故事。他回憶，第一次與李光耀見面是在廢省時，李光耀問原因，宋回答「為了精簡」，李光耀直率地說，「騙人」。

另外還有一個「嗡嗡嗡」的故事。宋楚瑜回憶，當時李光耀訪問台灣時，他的夫人陳萬水詢問李光耀夫人柯玉芝喜歡買什麼土產？柯玉芝答：「蜂蜜」，因為新加坡四季如春，所以蜂蜜不需要採蜜過冬。李光耀則說，「勤奮是華人最重要的資產，沒有勤奮再怎麼弄都沒有希望」。

此外，前總統李登輝辦公室主任王燕軍轉述，李登輝肯定李光耀當年帶領新加坡人民獨立建國，帶領新加坡成為亞洲四小龍之首，是新加坡珍貴的資產；蔡英文也推崇李光耀是卓越領導，讓新加坡成為一個不凡的國家。
